Henry Sy, Sr., whose ranking in Forbes lists is the 1st in Philippines 50 Richest with a wealth of $20.1 billion, is the Chairman Emeritus of SM Investments Corp, one of Philippines’ largest conglomerates which saw $6.7 billion in revenue in 2016.
He is the founder of the SM Group and is currently Chairman of SM Development and Highlands Prime Inc., among others. Mr. Sy opened the first ShoeMart store in 1958 and has since evolved into a dynamic group of companies with five lines of businesses – shopping malls, retail, financial services, real estate development and tourism, hotels and conventions.
He is likewise Chairman Emeritus of BDO Universal Bank, Inc., SM Prime Holdings, Inc., and Honorary Chairman of China Banking Corporation. Mr. Sy earned his Associate of Arts Degree in Commerce Studies at Far Eastern University and was conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Business Management by De La Salle University.
